Assamese brides wear a Mekhla Chadar (off-white silk saree with gold designs that has a silk thread work all over). Mekhla is first worn as a skirt and another half is worn as Anchal of the sari. The first part of the fabric is the skirt part, heavy in texture and ornamented with a broad border and work of embroidery is usually exquisite.
